Environmental Handling Fees

The program is funded entirely by Environmental Handling Fees remitted by ReGeneration’s industry members to the program. The Environmental Handling Fees applied to paint products as of May 1, 2012. The fees are based on the number of units sold in the province during the reporting period. The fee is subject to sales tax (federal and provincial), as it is considered to be a part of the price of the regulated products.

The Newfoundland and Labrador paint program was required to begin operations on April 18, 2012, but the effective start date for fee was May 1, 2012. Please note visible fees are not permitted by the Newfoundland and Labrador regulation.

Effective February 1, 2014, the Newfoundland paint fees have been reduced (see the table below) to be the same as the fee rates for Product Care’s New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI paint programs. Please note visible fees are not permitted by the Newfoundland Waste Management Regulations.
